Moving in the Rain? Here’s How to Keep Your Move Dry and Drama-Free

We all know Ontario weather has a mind of its own. You can have sunshine at breakfast and a full-blown downpour by lunch. So what happens if moving day arrives... and so does the rain?

At Big League Movers, we’ve seen it all—and we’ve got your back. A little water doesn’t have to ruin your big move. Here’s how to prep like a pro if the skies decide not to cooperate.

1. Wrap and Protect Everything
Use plastic bins whenever possible for packing. For your more delicate or valuable items, plastic wrap or garbage bags can keep fabric, artwork, and electronics dry between the house and the truck. Don’t forget to seal cardboard boxes tight with packing tape—rain and open flaps don’t mix.

2. Create a Dry Zone
Designate a “dry zone” in both the old and new space. This could be a garage, porch, or mudroom where movers can drop off items before bringing them deeper inside. This helps prevent muddy floors and soggy hallways.

3. Towels and Tarps Are Your Best Friends
Keep towels by the door and use tarps to line floors or cover large furniture while in transit. We always come prepared with extras, but having a few of your own nearby never hurts.

4. Dress for the Weather (and the Job)
We recommend you skip the umbrella (it’ll just slow you down) and go for a good raincoat and shoes with grip. Moving day is no time for a slip!

5. Trust the Pros
Our team at Big League Movers knows how to handle rain, snow, or shine. We work quickly and carefully to protect your belongings—because we treat every piece of furniture like it’s our own.

So don’t stress if Mother Nature throws you a curveball. With a little prep (and a reliable crew on your side), a rainy move can still be a smooth one.
